Senegalese-American Hip-hop and R&B star Akon is rumored to be releasing a secret country western album. Akon wants to be the first Black man to really break it big into country music. Akon won’t be using his real name for this project and will go under an alias. Akon has told reporters that he is a big fan of country music and wants to show the world that he can make it big in that genre. “I’m about to break into a genre that no black artist, writer or producer has ever broken into,” Akon said while appearing on The Hook Up at BBC 1Xtra Live. “The funniest part is I’m going in under an alias and I’ve already got my first hit record.”

Well we don’t know the alias he might be going under or if this story is even true but if we find out more info on this make sure to check out Jamati.com for the latest.

I grew up listening to country music in my parents van. We had an 8 track player which was really cool at the time. My favorites were Loretta Lynn, Dolly Pardon and Kenny Rogers.

As a white man from the country who lives and works in black suburbs, I am all for crossing of lines. Seeing Darius Rucker do country is great in my book.

But Akon is just showing himself to be ignorant if he wants to be “the first.” I can’t imagine rapping without being familiar with Run DMC. I would never trust a rock-n-roll artist who didn’t know anything about Elvis.

How can anyone do country music without knowing about Charley Pride?!?
